The Apple Vision Pro demo yesterday was really impressive and also scary. Its control of the visual world, mixed with a digital world actually trivializes human presence. “Your friend is just a click away. Not my embodied friends. The world portrayed is the world of teethy smiles and sanitized settings. The real world is powerfully hidden. I try to imagine AI controlling the flows in the ether while each of us steps into the flow with our Vision Pro headset. Andy Warhol’s “famous for fifteen minutes” is reduced to a nanosecond in a dispersed universe of anonymous photons. The world portrayed in the demo, the mountain vistas, the modern architecture rooms, is super cool cold, no children except a birthday party seen in a projected photograph, not in the lived-in space, everyone hysterically smiling.Even the work scene shows a staf person in a large multi worktable space all by himself. I imagine a work-scene with people was rejected because it showed a bunch of people with provision headsets . What a crazy making experience, Its bad enough with headphones.Andy Warhol ’s fifteen minutes of fame reduced to a nanosecond in the cloud. The gaming part of the demo was all violence, shooting, fire, destruction. Why is there no consensus that gaming trains for death? Gaming normalizes for combat. I could be very unppular by saying the same about pop music with its high percussion low harmony. If you haven’t seen the demo it, it’s important, especially the last section on the engineering. The social societal impact will be devastating.
I think Vision Pro is a major step in disempowering humans. Its very impressive. Imagine if this cost, this creativity were put into visioning the world of climate change. Has the thought ever moved to aliveness in Tim Cook’s imagination?
What if this tech were the major tool of the Good World management system?
The demo and the headpiece really impressive. The social societal impact will be devastating.
