2396. The danger
Well, not sure about addressed. The idea that the world under climate warming can be managed by finance and the market alone is weird yet it seemed to be the theme of this morning’s INET live. Green capitalism, Offsets, taxes ND and Netzero are very game-able shell games. Treating gas as “clean energy” is just bad faith hooliganism. The hope that many would get rich in facing climate change is obscene. The origin of the word Career - for we are dealing with career ambitions - is old french carrier, the charge of a horse in a jousting match. Gas substitution means we die only a few years later. Doesn’t science say there is too much in the air and burning gas instead of oil just adds to it slightly slower? Every day I ask myself is there a different path possible?
What is not faced is that we must start major cuts in co2 generation NOW and FAST, and is no game plan for how to do that. We tell people to change their behavior,, we tell Congress to act and we tell the President to act lead but there is no document that lays out what these could mean. It needs to be brutal interference in the way society is structured and run.
What the investment/entrepreneurial community wants is lots of money for green projects based on bonds that are guaranteed. Then no reason to avoid bad projects because the bonds will be paid no matter what. And there really are not many good projects with scale and profit.
We need leaders who will step out of the mainstream and propose that the UN be given the authority and resources to demand compliance with no oil exploration, then no oil pumping and then no oil selling. wow, can you hear the howling! Nothing compared to what it will be as temperature rises and more immigrants emerge and more suicides fill morgues.

Capitalism’s DNA makes it unfit to cope with the fallout from climate change, which in no small part is the product of capitalism itself. The entire capitalist system is premised on the privatization of gains and the socialization of losses – not in any nefarious fashion, but with the blessing of the law.
The race is on as to what leaders will step forward. The possibility is that nobody is in the race.
