2412. How should we live now?
As Socrates asked, what is the fit life for a human being? Circumstances used to include that after the war or the famine or the plague the world that had been livable would return. That is no longer something we can assume. In fact many people have assumed that that world is lost forever and with the tat loss the loss of human civilization and beyond that the human species. So how to live with this awareness?
The task is clear: create the best situation we can to aid the younger and coming generations to live better and wiser and with better tools than we had. I think to study history hard, see parallels, have hard conversations, take time to stay healthy including some meditation and art (Poetry, painting, music, gardening) and to be on the lookout for things worth doing, first of all for the whole situation and, short of that, for the local situation, including at the most basic organizing to help those hurting. It has rarely ben so true, the legitimacy of the Simone Weil’s “There is only one legitimate question you can of someone ‘what are you going through,? ‘ Because everyone is going through something.” Arn’t we all!
