2425. Undoing to liberate new possibilities.
Progress. There is an emerging consensus that the current neoclassical (physics look-alike) economy is broken.
Thee is an emerging consensus, still weak, that we need a more organic economy that fits on the earth.
But the next development, what to do (in detail), is still missing. People seem to stop at saying ever more clearly what is wrong, but no attention as to the concrete steps necessary to get this economy to fit the earth.
Some will say things like “more solar”. but not specify how much is needed, who manufactures it, with what materials mined by whom and where, transportation, and what of the grid and the storage? (And have you seen the photos of a field of panels covered in snow!)
I think we are concluding that necessary steps are very unclear, very hard to clarify, and hence nearly impossible to do. Most proposals assume that we have to get from where we are to a better place: greening while growing. Not likely, the contradictions are too great. If we face facts instead of from our current state to a better state we conclude that we need to move to a partially collapsed state where things have come apart enough to allow us to reorganize. If this emerges as a consensus then we face a large number of new possibilities. Lots to do.
