2430. Davids Graeber and Wengrow new book , The Dawn of Everything, a New History of Humanity
Half way through, just terrific. Basic idea, almost everything, social and material: democracy, non hierarchical societies, kingship, kinship, textiles, pottery, metallurgy… All invented/discovered before the bronze age.
This opens up social science and contemporary politics to a new dawn, because the complex things we have, instead of being the product of complex modern civilization - which is mostly a simplification of older things - were actually put together over along period of time by people with liberated imaginations improving their world. Under the pressure of climate change, we need that kind of liberation and a renewed sense of self purpose and nature.
