2503. The meaning of intelligent in our context.
why can't we be smart. Too many cars, too much roadways, equal space use of most of the houses. Why don't we imagine out the consequences? Where is the food coming from? Why don't we figure out that the stuff that comes out of the tailpipe adds up? A simple calculation would show that a tank of gas puts 300 pounds of CO2 in the air. Why don't we see that if there are poor people in a society of promise something has gone wrong?Where is the food coming from?
We like to think that we are smarter and more successful than unspecified others whom we imagine living meanly. But if we are so smart how come we have built a society that's going to kill us? And is now for many.
Our country lived through Genocide with the Americans (native), slavery, civil war, and then in just a few decades www1 and 2, and then on to really stupid wars - Korea, Vietnam, Iraq Afghanistan ab all the little for us wars of colonization and private property creating the wealth that now deeply divides us into classes and doesn’t allow us to act on behalf of all?
I am reading. Mary Beards SPQR, her history of Rome around the time of Caesar. Over and over the rich get too rich and the underclass rebels and thousands are killed. Can't we learn from this and apply what we have learned?
