One mistake of humanity, or maybe just the West has been to let economy be a mode of governance without anything like democracy. One dollar one vote had led to political stupidity- in particular not maintaining the democratic (participation)or republican (the government belongs to the people) basic assumptions which, we forgot, require constant learning and engagement and defense against the tendency, always present, autocracy.
We studied for jobs and not for citizenship which gave the whole stage to financial interests to run the show to their script - and we didn't see it. Democratic governance requires constant vigilance, study, conversation.
Capitalism is simple: some people own all the resources of society and the rest do not. Politics is simple: it is the struggle for values in a human world.
