2539. Self and community in need of each other.
People are expected to make a life with a mate surrounded by nothing - maybe a rented apartment, a car in the street, a grocery store a few miles away and some shops, a school with metal detectors. They can stay inside with Internet and a phone. A credit card in a pocket (credit implies borrowed and owing) Bits flowing all over but unseen by the person but serving the needs of business. Time with others is time at work and your time is the property of the company.
A real life requires a mate, plus community plus music dance and drama. A church equivalent, a library, several parks, a place for meetings and work that contributes to the real needs and desires of the community.
We should have a continuous dialog on the good life. "What can I do today to develop my self and my community? "As it is way too many humans live life empty of pleasure. Their humanity festers rather than develops.
We need to take the management of humanity on the earth seriously and with interest.
I highly recommend Michael Mead' s discussion of how a societal breakdown leads to a breakthrough of the needs of circumstances to the potential for self.
