2547. Democrats are part of the problem along with the Republicans...
…..but in some way better, less virulent, more humane, but in some ways worse because Democratic practices were very b ad for the county as a whole but especially the people who became Trump supporters. Democratic policies led to the movement of US corporations to China for the double benefit of cheaper labor and moving pollution from the US to China. Rising real estate has undine the fair housing culture, which increased access but much higher rices are a new barrier keeping “them” out. Public schools instead of a ladder out have become a trap in. The replacement of politics by economics as the major decision making frame destroys the culture.
Part of what is happening in the world, driven in part by aa closer look at the Russian invasion of Ukraine, is the world noticing with less turning away that in Vietnam, Iraq ,Nicaragua, Cuba and much else, the US has been invasive, tricky and destructive.
As people world wide have a clearer vision of colonialism, slavery and indigenous genocide, the whole world is deeply tarnished, and much of it is attributed to the United States. Unscrambling all this so humanity can move on will be difficult, and we may not have the time and will to come together in the project of a a shared destiny. Russia is an aberration, but when the Soviet Union collapsed we rushed in to make them a market, not a society, setting the conditions for Putin.
All the advertising, the hype around cars, planes, TV, Internet air conditioning all looks suspect in creating a climate catastrophe. Our leaders lacked imagination about their own activities and happy times have turned against us. And we went along, often having moments, like traffic james on ten lane highways or sinking school scores, worsening health with higher costs, and the magic of money acting as acid in our hearts.
We are over fishing the oceans, over fertilizing soil, marginalizing more people, killing of species. WE meed to take on the task of caring for families and their child rem, of surrounding us with arts, nature and appreciation. Common sense about caring where its need is obvious, and cutting CO2 production painfully and recklessly fast. Any slower is even more reckless and irresponsible.
The Democrats, to win this upcoming election, must be much more honest. That is, lead.
Who will do what and when will they do it? Lets discuss.
