The current political scene is made up of conflicts that create gang-like rather than individually thoughtful positions for discussion and leads people to posturing acting out a script, with lying and thuggism that undermines the Constitution. It should be in the culture that preserving the form of constitutional government comes before actions that further a preferred policy/ .

Amy Chua wrote about the notion of the “super-tribe” in America — I.e. the ability for an overarching identity of “American” to be prepotent over lesser identities like “democrat” or “republican.”

Democracy is a battle for power. When one side uses misinformation as a weapon in that battle, and is also able to spread that misinformation rapidly (e.g. through lie-amplification machines like twitter and facebook in the US, or through state-controlled media in Russia), then the supertribe becomes sacrificed in the process.
