When I write something I want a human reader, who will be responsive. What I am getting is a nice rational discussion that lacks any clue about personhood. If I add a chatbot response to my own writing what I get is something interesting but it certainly is not me. Imagine how I feel if later someone asks me a question about what I wrote. It seems that some writers are so thrilled by the quality of thought that they do not ask questions about whose thought it is. If at the end of the day I look back on my encounters with others, but not a single human being emerges I am going to be really depressed.
The political economy implication is that the society will be made of texts which fit the algorithms of power-hungry people who care more about power than about people.
(I am working to keep postings short, logical in structure, and clear about values.)
C'mon, man. Please do cease feeling down, if that's the case. Life, I'm afraid, has gotten way too busy for so many, that taking the time to pen an observer's comment, has become a rare event. Actually on metafilter, I'm still mulling over the Ezar Klein analysis. Me? Knowing that my vote is worth shite, if I vote with the hordes for Biden or against Trump, I'll not sit this one out but likely go with one of the alt-candidates on the Virginia presidential ballot. Your thoughts?
Right on. And something else it can't do because human being to human being is a dance of the nerves not just linguistics.
