We tend to think of our surroundings the earth and cities, as fairly stable… This is an illusion.
Complexity, size, centralized, decentralized. are continually in motion. All have non-zero second derivatives (The rate of change of each of these ) all the time, modified by things that provide long-term distortions that will ultimately fail. Coal;, oil, nuclear power Electricity is a game changer we amazingly take as given.
It is important to realize that these key factors, size, complexity, centralization, and decentralization are acting anyway and will lead societies to succeed and fail. We do not need climate change to achieve this. Human actions, seeking opportunities, seize on these factors for their own betterment without awareness of the tectonic plates thy are creating and trying to ride.
Focus on climate change lets institutions off the hook, free from investigation into their causal and destructive actions. Given the way capitalism plays out with complexity and growth we would be by now obviously failing anyway. (Inequality, pollution).
We are in a failing society distracted by climate where climate change is the result of the system it now threatens.
Climate is a distraction from the real problem. Even capitalism is a result, not a cause. The real cause is the current form of human thinking.
