Sea rise, ice melt, temperature up, CO2 up food production down. The worst developments are happening faster than expected. But it was the tendency of so many scientists and policy people to say, "But it is not too late,” after a very dire presentation that led us into a combination of numbness, paralysis, and speaking too casually about what was actually happening. The result is we are still paralyzed and lack the words to say what we think. Do you really think Kamala can meaningfully take on the issue while supporting a growth strategy?
To say it plainly, heat death and starvation are the highly likely scenarios and people are arriving at that conclusion also rapidly.
All the low-probability scenarios (wind and solar, nuclear and hydrogen) are not likely. They rely for examople on a grid and on the sequestration of remaining CO2, which is much more thna most people realize. The weight of the atmosphere is 2% of the earth's total weight.
The total mass of Earth’s atmosphere is about 5.5 quadrillion tons, or roughly one millionth of Earth’s mass.
A quadrillion is 10 to the 15th. 0.04 thus weighs 5 times 10 to the 13 tons of CO2.. Or as I wrote a while back, about equivalent to all the automobiles on earth, maybe 6 billion. (Order of magnitude).
