mere anarchy is loosed upon the land
WW1 millions dead. A generation of arts lost.
Ww2. Millions dead a generation of families dead
The Iraq war. And Afghanjstan and the rest
Many individuals (I have my doubts, using my self as a case ) knew, but society seemed incapable of drawing implications for what needed to change. The scale can’t be the problem. The 100 million dead in the 20th century was not enough but did show that numbers were not the deciding factor that could get our attention. But this collapsed under the pressures of trade, population , extention into Americas, colonialism, slavering , wealth devouring wars, The loss of the christian belief world left a gap filled by the Treaty of Westphalia and the federalization of belief in segments, catholic, Protestant, trade and science. No coherent thought was possible. Brutal empires were replaced slow by anarchy and despotism.
