[I made a major mistake in the posted version by leaving our population as one of the major forces. It reminds me of how easy it is to. “forget“ population has been. probably humanity‘s biggest mistake.)
Archimedes said something like, give me a lever long enough and I can move the world. Modern tech gives anyone who wants one a short lever to move a few words into the media circus. The result is words everywhere and confusion.
The world can be visualized as carrying across its entire surface two main trends.
The first is climate warming driven by increased greenhouse gas, and while it is clear we should be cutting, the amount of fuel being burned is steadily increasing and the air will become unevenly warmer till the ocean boils. Sooner than most of us think.
The second is the implications of AI. AI connects everything to everything. Invidia has computers watching videos without a break and making connections of every image with every other image.. The result is a World covering set of information Lego blocks. This is a structure, a thing, and can be and will be owned. The race is on among corporations and governments. It will end, if not war first, a global monopoly, feudalism with only one global estate.
The intersection of the two trends will be really interesting. And possibly not entirely negative. It just might be that the AI trend will lead to reasonable management of the fossil fuel trend now resulting in climate warming. But if we add other forces to our thinking such as nuclear war and dysfunctional geopolitics, and corporate power, I am skeptical.
