How do we get from from science to action? In fact most stuff that science takes up was named by social communities. Water sky pebbles. Light, gravity. In history as a science, this phase of the siding boards were thinking about is left out. But if we are thinking about our ontology – the choice of objects to think about– what is the best choice we can make with effective climate change in mind? We need to be thinking about the choice of objects that gives us leverage on the process.
Maybe not CO2, temperature, atmosphere, absorption, density, parts per million. I am thinking in particular of the new interest in storytelling. What are the stories we need to be telling now? A great story is that of the collapse of empires. Another is hubris. Others? Greed. Or I like,"Our predicament is the result of our naivety." That implies that the most important task is how to be less naïve. Not more economics nor tech nor even leadership. These, while still important, become secondary to the real task.
