I added politics to the title of the book because I knew that breaking down all systems and replacing them with Gardenworld would cause lots of controversy and traditionally politics is the realm where controversies are resolved or at least understood. (The excellent book Politics and Vision, by Sheldon Wolin)
Now I have come to think we can understand the current situation, how we got here, and what is unworkable about all proposed paths forward. I notice that many climate writers are realizing that the task of repair, regeneration, and coming to a better society as the way forward is impossible and we are left with the question of how then to spend our time.
My shifting questions and perspectives in coming posts will reflect the slimy slippery paths as they emerge.
But I still hold to Gardenworld because, any path chosen still requires food, shelter, and relationships and Gardenworld fits all but the worst outcomes: war, plague, and heat. In all the others some version of Gardenworld will be set in motion, All our good books being written, or recently written, published or not, have this problem. See for example Breaking Together by Jem Bendel
