Science versus humanities
Sorry for the long pause, but I’ve run into medical problems around the side effects of amylodosis, which produces a protein which hooks onto internal organs and slowly strangle them. In my case, the first to go where the nerves in my legs making walking difficult but leaves the rest of the body for a while alone. The result is, I’m doing quite well actually except for mobility. I can’t help but be struck by metaphorical comparisons of what’s going on in my body and what’s going on in the body politic. I also like society I’m having difficulty with money. I want fto keep active but activity. is more expensivewhen sick?
My thought for today is about the difference between science and the humanities. Science strives for one coherent picture of the world and dislikes discontinuities. The humanities on the other side thrive on conflict, conversation. and clarifying differences, not in eliminating them.
