About climate action in essays and articles, book after book, symposium daily, the same thing. Increasing urgency but no action.
Why? Seems to me very simple. There is no script on what to do. There have to be cuts in fossil fuel use but the cuts that would be sufficient … where are the proposals?.. stuck because sufficient plans would require specifying losses - in business, in income …and… lives.
No leader wants to go into that territory.. so we get plea after plea ..”we must act”… but no plan of action.. the pleas are empty.. so we default to waiting for “opportunities” . We live in a society of constant defeats, millions dead in war after war and a few famines . Ye live middle class lives like driving our kids miles to a scoccer game and home to a good dinner. The news out of Ruaaia and its mobilization, where such daily fairly pleasant lives hve been lived now disrupted by police who can draft you in bed or on the street is the kind of shock we face .
I wish i had a next paragraph but I don’t. I am impressed with Plato's writing that we can align our soul with politics or with the cosmos. Both, he days, legitimate, very different results. We now can align ourselves with the media, with nature, with literature, with art, with alcahol, with sports. Very different impacts on our psyche.
