Jaron Lanier in a widely quoted article in the New Yorker wrote
‘ If the new tech isn’t true artificial intelligence, then what is it? In my view, the most accurate way to understand what we are building today is as an innovative form of social collaboration.”
This distinction between social collaboration, that is, AI and thinking, is powerful as well as subtle. It holds up the possibility of a more profound view of thinking beyond collaborative conversation. Normal thanking, AI, and chatbots I have not been able to make progress on climate change but made it worse, proposing, policies, and plans that is implemented, would create more CO2 and support rising temperatures rather than curtailing them Holding on to the idea that there is thinking beyond artificial intelligence takes us into new territory which just might unite the earth, all of it, in a newly conceived effort.
‘\We are at the very beginning of time for the human race. It is not unreasonable that we grapple with problems. But there are tens of thousands of years in the future. Our responsibility is to do what we can, learn what we can, improve the solutions, and pass them on. — Richard Feynman
