We tend to think of Darwinian evolution in the same terms we think of economics - competition competition competition. Not cooperation.
Darwin wrote the Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals. Not widely read. You may have noticed an extraordinary fact about nature, for almost all animals their young are cute. This implies that humans are affected by this cuteness feeling it in our heart soul and gut. That there is a quality of the species that is not of the mechanical level but powerfully implicated in survival suggests that there may be other qualities that are generally ignored in the more mechanical analysis of evolution. We need to explore this possibility, to find leverage points around which songs and conversations can be organized.
The evolutionarily role of cuteness is overlooked
Two areas of inquiry that might provide leverage points are the I Ching or Book of Change; and Astrology. An interesting look at the later is Richard Tarnas’s “Cosmos and Psyche” which overlaps with interest in the I Ching through its use of Carl Jung’s archetypes and synchronicity.
