News media since COP 28 have been thin on climate news. Little about rising temperatures, glacier melting and collapse, crop failure due to heat from CO2, and the absence from the press of any reflection on the opaqueness of oil companies, The powers that control the media want us to avoid any talk that might implicate CO2. The result is a badly informed population force-fed news about Israel, and Palestine, the stock market, and big bully Trump. Storms and fires are given press but little mention of climate change or CO2 or the oil companies. ”We have a moral obligation to deliver what the consumers want”.
Even this thought of mine is likely to contain misinformation since the idea of media distortion is hard to quantify, and the critique of news coming from what is called the left and being led by others who also seem uninterested in real analysis.
People have already chosen their preferred monsters and are telling us about the shadows those monsters cast. Real news might include projections on crop failure, why methane is worse than CO2, and why the rich are getting so much richer. How about an analysis of the implications of Trump economics and why large populations are hard to manage? The issues the press does report on are serious, but one cannot help but notice that they replace, for keystroke options we are given, the much more serious issues of climate change. We have to add into the mix now this possibility of war, also based on misinformation Can you articulate the view of the Palestinians or the Russians? There is no simple, rational path through all this, but what we are getting. Is not what we need. Most serious is the coming collapse and our lack of preparation for its many disruptions.
