Kind of obvious, paid work is being replaced with owned computing and AI, further concentrating wealth and increasing unemployment. At the same time, a major reshuffling is coming from temperature rise and associated climate shutdowns. Terrible. But the response, local, national global - is very anemic. My view has been that the anemia is a result of. our inability to imagine any sufficiently vigorous line of action. So lay low, just maybe it was all an illusion.
But it is not, and the conclusion DeLong raises in Slouching Toward Utopia is that we need a Roosevelt that can initiate big projects, like the components of the New Deal, co-manged. We need big and we need it now. The New Deal made minor changes in capitalism but big changes in governance, We need even more, bigger, Are Iran, Russia Ukraine, London worth imitating while we get our imagination engaged?
