The critique of capitalism - the few own the whole - and of the abstraction and mechanization of thinking that supports it - is highly developed.* All the ideas are present. What is missing is distribution. Mainstream has developed the ability to suppress, distance, weaken - critical thinking and continue on a path that the suppressed knew was going to be a disaster. An example is the suppression of Noam Chomsky. I conclude that more thinking and writing, while good for readers and writers, does not affect the whole divisive arrangement. That arrangement is leading to the broom closet. Can we change the momentum of our inertness into the momentum of a viable social force?
An example is Gibbons's Decline and Fall Of the Roman Empire. Many examples of the rise of tyrants and the class absorption of the whole output of society. The Founding Fathers read this text and decided - following Locke - on representative democracy where the elites gave us the limited choices we could vote among, clearly fearful of the mob taking property rights (those with property have the rights).
*example would be John Ralston Saul’s Voltaire’s Bastards, Toulmin’s Cosmopolis, or, from the plaintiffs, Mike_Davis’s books on Los Angeles like Planet of Slums. We pride ourselves in being sure that 2+2=4 bu miss that capitalism plus slums equals the mean conditions we live under and will die from?
