A dominant fact now is that years after the Paris Accords and many symposia and conferences and new departments focused on thinking climate the amount of fossil fuel being burned is not only still increasing, but the rate of increase is increasing’. Meanwhile, new meetings focused on climate still feature the idea of growth being the only way of coping, promising a new green industrial base. We have Davos and Cop 29 coming up and the best guess is that they’ll try to pressure governments to give guarantees to projects "For a new decade of financial opportunity’”. They will still maintain that free markets can solve climate issues.

If you find yourself in need of an absurd example of energy expenditure which produces almost zero social value but enriches those already rich, you may need to look no further than to the heinous deal between the operators of the Three Mile Island nuclear facility and Microsoft which is seeking cheap energy to drive its machine learning training initiatives.
This is beyond bullshit.
