I’ve been dreaming of an Eden Project for the last year or two. A literal place (or in fact, many places around the world) that exist beyond civilization; that people can point to and say “there—that’s how we escape”. Where the land is rewilded first for non-human animals, and then eventually for humans to live there too (small numbers of them anyways). All the world a garden — and us within it. Protecting it. Growing it. Taking only what is needed, leaving the rest. Non-interference. A cradle for life on this planet to continue to evolve. We were the first to break out of the circle of instinct on this planet, but we don’t have to be the last.

Hello Douglas, For you, the best place to start is probably the New Economy Coalition, and books and articles by its founder, Gar Alperovitz, who was the lead organizer for the community attempt to purchase the Youngstown Steel factory when its owners announced plans to close it (torpedoed by the competing steel companies and probably the international leadership of the Steelworkers Union who thought the local leadership would outshine them if they succeeded). Along with that, I suggest Bioneers, the True Purpose Institute, Permaculture, and those among the books on designing sustainable economies that attract you. Mark
