We start with the continuing decline of the current world-condition and the encroaching tsunami of troubles. It’s good to do something in response but we realize that people are reluctant to upset their lives. Therefore, the best approach is to look for some simple preparation for what might happen and gathering resources to meet the challenges. Lives are not disrupted, yet reality is faced. This might mean fuel, tools, shelters, and new small communal groups that come together to discuss their current situations to discuss plans and begin to act on the needs of the community lifeboats. The idea is that, under the worst conditions, the Earth still provides some livable niches, whose success, could be enhanced by prior planning and resource gathering without threatening people’s-current life course yet engaging them in potential future paths of significant responses.
Once a few efforts in establishing a lifeboat are obvious and serious, even if small-scale, the lifeboat idea will propagate. It will be important to avoid fixed agriculture with long lines of identical rows gardened by people stuck in traditional mechanical roles with controlling overseers.
As success is even partially realized it will emerge that design feeling affects how people realize the part they are working on. This is the doorway to the next stage - gardenworld- the integration of food and habitat, of gardening, shelter, and art.
A bi too abstract but the garden world is a way in to create a new civilization.
Mostly all winters, the kale, cilantro, and scallions, et al. keep me and the family fairly fit. While the other member still indulges in lots of meat, I'm mas or menos 95% vegetarian. Yearly I set out a number of seed-grown saplings, being sure to include native persimmons to add a bit of sweet to the diet. Fortunately, our in-city land, bordering a moderate-sized preserve, will be with us the remaing 15-30 years of our lives. The daily exercise regimen continues full-throttle and will keep the local food co-op within an achievable distance. Good fortune to you, Douglass. BB
